About Gretchen

Gretchen Prater is a landscape and portrait artist who has been studying and painting for many years. Her process includes painting on location to capture nature's light, color and form. She also works in her studio in Essex Fells, NJ. She has painted Plein Air in Maine, Connecticut, New Jersey, Florida, Nantucket, Wyoming, Montana, France and Italy.

Gretchen received her BFA from Stephens College. She has studied oil painting, watercolor and pastels with Charles Reid, Wolf Khan and Timothy Clark, as well as at the Yard School of Art, at Montclair Art Museum, Silvermine Art School in Connecticut,. Her landscapes, portraits and other paintings are in many personal collections.

In addition, Gretchen sits on the Board at the Montclair Art Museum, and was instrumental in the revitalization process of the Yard School of Art in Montclair, New Jersey. She has had exhibits at the Montclair Art Museum, Silvermine Art School in Connecticut, Chase Bank in Manhattan, the Rose Center in Morristown, Tennessee, and EuroArt Gallery in Montclair.
